Paper Selection
Crane’s 100% Cotton Papers — Lettra, Kid Finish, and Imagine Finish — offer an earth-friendly paper of unsurpassed quality. Made with cotton fibers recovered from the apparel trade and the fine fibers left after ginning cotton seed, Crane papers are truly tree-free. The inherently white cotton fibers require fewer chemicals for processing and produce less waste.
William Arthur Papers — William Arthur’s papers are manufactured according to exacting standards using only the finest hard and soft wood fibers, carefully blended to provide the soft feel, creamy texture and substantial weight associated with fine stationery and invitations. They are acid free, endowing them with archival like properties.
Printing Preferences
There are many types of printing processes to individualize your invitations. Below you’ll find just a few of the options offered to create your custom invitations.
Engraving creates finely detailed lettering and designs, with slight indentations on the reverse side of the paper. Text and design are etched into a copper engraving plate called a die. Ink is applied to the die and wiped off the surface but the remains in the engraved cavity. Engraving is also a go-to for formal event invitations such as weddings, and in fact it is particularly well suited to grand social occasions.
Thermography – Sometimes referred to as “imitation engraving”, thermography produces an effect similar to engraving in that it can be felt on the surface of the paper. Because it does not require the creation of an engraved plate, thermography is less expensive and faster than engraving. It offers a good trade-off between price and results for those who want to make an impression similar to that of engraving.
Letterpress – Wonderfully tactile and simply exquisite, letterpress printing has a rich, warm feel that one can’t help but appreciate. Colors appear deep and rich in tone, with a luxurious matte finish. The pressing process transfers the ink and leaves a deep impression on the paper creating a three-dimensional print. Letterpress offers a contemporary sophistication that works on all types of stationery and invitations.
Foil Stamping – Shiny and lustrous, foil stamping can make a glittering impression for special projects. Whether it’s used alone or in conjunction with another printing process, foil stamping is all about adding that extra special sparkle to create an alluring combination of visuals and textures. The sparkle makes foil stamping an obvious choice for festive occasions. But used with care and incorporated into designs with subtlety, it’s an equally wonderful choice for wedding and event invitations and cards
